Charter

Here you can find answers on chartering a yacht questions.

What license is required for a sailing charter?

For bareboat charter, Greek Port authorities define the minimum of one (1) valid  sailing license/certificate plus one (1) experienced co-skipper. If none of your party holds a license, you can hire the yacht with a professional skipper.

ICC certificates for bareboat skipper or superior, ISSA Inshore Skipper or superior, ASA 104 or superior, RYA bareboat skipper certificates are the sufficient level of license for bareboat charters in Greece. Other local certificates from different countries, similar to the ones previously mentioned are also acceptable but need to be in English or translated.

When chartering, can we sail outside Greek territorial waters?

Chartering outside Greek territorial waters is not allowed.

What is included in the charter price?

The charter price includes the yacht rental, navigation and safety equipment and a dinghy. The obligatory payment required at check-in is the cleaning fee and any extra equipment (if not already paid in advance). Outboard engine, SUP, generator, snorkelling equipment are optional services not included in the charter price but can be arranged upon request. We suggest requesting any extras in advance.

What is not included in the charter price?

Base charter fees do not include fuel consumption, water consumption, provisions, transportation to/from the yacht and any port fees in your itinerary (excluding the fees of your embarkation/disembarkation port for the specific dates).

What is the security deposit?

The security deposit is the amount you are liable for if any damage to the yacht occurs due to mishandling the yacht during the charter. During your check-in procedure, the security deposit is given at the base (cash or card authorisation). The security deposit will be refunded in full unless damage has occurred to the yacht. Note that the security deposit is the maximum amount you can be charged. The insurance company will cover everything that exceeds this amount according to their insurance clauses. If a theft occurs during your yacht charter – i.e., the dingy or any boat equipment, please be sure to report it immediately to the nearest police station.

Is it possible to buy additional insurance to cover all potential damages?

You can buy online a security deposit insurance that practically covers the loss of the security deposit.
You can order it online here.

What is the cost of marinas and harbours?

Mooring fees vary from marina to marina. Mooring costs also depend on the location, popularity of the marina, and size of the boat. Of course, there are always areas with free anchorages or free mooring at a jetty (if you dine in their restaurant).

Can I book a berth in a marina in advance?

It is recommended to book a berth in advance in private jetties and marinas as they are usually fully booked in the high season. Call them directly and make any arrangements.

When do check-in and check-out take place?

Embarkation is Saturday afternoon from 6 pm. We need time to prepare the yachts for charter, cleaning, checking the boat and equipment, etc. However, you can request early check-in (in advance at a surcharge), or if the yacht is ready earlier, where possible, we may allow early embarkation.

Check-out procedure is on Friday afternoon from 5 pm. Usually you can sleep on board the last night and disembark on Saturday at 9 am the latest.

Reservations

Here you can find answers on reserving a yacht questions.

How does the reservation process work?

If you decide that you’re interested in reserving the yacht, we will send over a quote and deposit details and put a hold on the boat for up to a week. We require a 50% trip deposit to reserve the yacht. You can pay this deposit via bank transfer.
The remaining balance will be due one month before the charter.

What payment methods are accepted?

In general, we accept bank transfer payments and payments by credit cards (Visa & Mastercard).
Note: some payments are required during check-in (cleaning fee & extras). The cleaning fee and extras are paid in cash (EURO). However, don’t stress, once the booking is confirmed, you will receive all necessary payment instructions from our booking department.

What if I want to cancel my charter?
Cancellation fees are calculated according to the date of cancellation. Here is a breakdown:
- 50% of the contracted price, if the charter is cancelled up to 31 days before embarkation
-100% of the contracted price if the charter is cancelled within 30 days before the embarkation date
What is the best time to go sailing in Greece?

Every season has its highlights – so the best time to come depends on what kind of vacation you are looking for. If you want long, hot days in the sun, lots of swimming, if you enjoy the crowds and nightlife then the end of June, July and August are great.
If you like the summer experience, but with fewer crowds and not such high temperatures, mid of May, the beginning of June and September are also a great time to consider. However, if you are looking for peace, April, May and October are excellent times to visit. Some years, the beginning of May and the end of October, are warm enough for swimming!

Comfort on board

Interested to know how comfortable is staying on board?

Can I take electrical devices onboard?

Yes, you can bring electrical devices on board, but there are a few things to know:

- Greece uses the standard European 2-point plug – so you may need to buy an adapter.

- All our yachts are equipped with power inverters that provide a 220V current at all times. However, keep usage of devices to a minimum when sailing, so the system is not overwhelmed.

- 220V electricity is also available when connected to shore power in harbours.

- Be rational when using devices, unplug anything unnecessary, and use or charge your devices more frequently when connected to shore power.

- You can use phone chargers on board with the standard 220V plug – just be sure you have the necessary adapters. We also suggest using the USB plugs available onboard to charge your mobile phones.

Is mobile phone signal available in all sailing areas?

Most of the Greek coast and sea is covered with mobile phone signal. Naturally, there may be no signal in some small bays or remote locations, but this is rare.

Are towels & linen included in the charter fee?

Towels & bed linen are included in the cleaning fee.
Each person on board will be provided with one set of bathroom towels for the whole booking period. Extra sets can be arranged with a surcharge. Beach towels are not included as part of the towel set.
You will also be provided with one set of bed linen for each cabin for the whole booking period. Extra sets can be arranged with a surcharge.

Is there WiFi onboard?

We can offer WiFi, so please let us know in advance.
The WiFi works via a hotspot connected to the 4G mobile network.
You can purchase data before your embarkation.
We highly recommend turning off all auto-updates on phones and computers, as it tends to use up data very quickly. Sending photos and streaming also uses up a lot of data.

Is there a coffee maker on board?

The yachts will at least have a basic coffee maker. It is essentially a filter that you fill with grounds and pour hot water over (there is a kettle on board as well).

What type of luggage should I use?

It’s important to remember that you’re spending a week on a yacht, so the cabins have limited storage space. If possible, pack a bag that is either small or easily collapsible. Carry-on bags or duffel type bags are ideal. It will free up a lot of room if your bag can be tucked away.

What should I take with me on the yacht?

It would be best if you took only your clothes, beach towels, and medicines with you. We recommend warm clothing and waterproof jackets during colder times of the year. The clothing must be appropriate for use onboard, and we recommend boat shoes or boots for sailing in rough conditions.

What happens on Friday night after we return to base?

Our charters return to Vlicho on Friday afternoon by 17:00 at the latest. Check out is at 9 am on Saturday. We offer the opportunity for guests to spend their final Friday night on the yacht.

We suggest having your Friday dinner at a restaurant in Vliho going on foot.

Otherwise a good choice is Geni on the other side of the bay, or the busier Nydri.

Where do I board the yacht?

Our yachts are located at Vlicho Bay, Nidri, Lefkas. Our base is a 20-minute drive from Lefkas city centre and 40 minutes from Aktio airport.
We recommend arranging it before your arrival to avoid delays if you need transportation to our base.

Can you recommend any sailing routes?

We have prepared some 7day and 14day routes from Lefkas to the nearby islands. Click here to see the suggested sailing routes.

Skippered Charter

Find the answers on FAQ about skippered charters

Does the skipper speak English?

Our skippers speak English. They will be happy to answer all your questions about Greek food, culture, history, etc. They will also assist your party in choosing restaurants and ordering local specialities if you would like them to accompany you to dinner in the evenings.

Do I have to provide food for the skipper?

Provisioning is not included in the price for the skipper’s services, meaning that you have to provide food for the skipper whether you are dining at a restaurant or onboard.

What do I expect from the skipper during our charter?

The skipper’s first priority is safety, so it’s important to understand that weather-based route decisions will follow this principle. Their second priority is to help you have the best possible vacation. We find that clients who interact with their skippers while on charters have the best overall experience. If you’d like to get to know them a bit better, feel free to invite them to dinner on one of your first few evenings. They’ll likely know the best off the beaten path restaurants and local menu items on each island. The skipper doesn’t expect this at all and understands that every client has their own unique preference and personality.

Where does the skipper sleep?

Generally, the skipper will sleep in one of the available cabins.
